Kane & Lynch 2: Dog Days is releasing in a somewhat unenviable position. After controversy surrounding the last game and a generally lukewarm response from critics, some were surprised that a second game was greenlit so quickly. It's good then that Dog Days makes such a strong first impression, with its handheld video style visuals and the return of the violent, mature themes that defined Kane & Lynch: Dead Men. But what everyone wants to know is whether Dog Days solves the problems that plagued Dead Men: the dodgy controls, the story that fell apart, the lack of online co-op, and more. To a degree, it does, but issues remain in IO's tale of criminals in a desperate situation. More Kane & Lynch 2: Dog Days News & Previews Dog Days is a c

It was kind of a big deal, but that doesn't mean the videogame industry slows down at all afterwards. In fact, the months following E3 tend to be just as packed with events as before E3. There was Comic-Con a little while back, Tokyo Game Show is on the horizon, and PAX isn't that far off. But in the middle of all that is a gigantic game show that takes place in Cologne, Germany call

Welcome to the city of Columbia. Floating amongst the clouds, cruising far above sea level, this is a place unlike any you've ever seen. Please enjoy your voyage... The third game in the popular Bioshock series, BioShock: Infinite breaks away from the underwater setting of the first two games to take players into a floating city held aloft by dirigibles. The game is set in 1912. You play as Booker DeWitt, a disgraced former private detective who's picked up a new case. Your goal is to find Elizabeth, a young woman who's gone missing and return her unharmed. The only problem is that she's being kept on this flying city. Columbia was once a symbol of America's success as a nation, floating around the world as a traveling World's Fair, a marvel of human innovation. But strange things have happened since Columbia's unveiling in 1900, and now the ci

Ubisoft has confirmed to IGN the title of the next Assassin's Creed game. A purported GameStop reservation placeholder card for Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood has been leaked early by an employee. Ubisoft said the image below is authentic and that they'll have more information next week. The game will be released this fall for PC, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360. The details listed on the back of the card align with what Ubisoft has already confirmed, such as the inclusion of Ezio and the location, Rome. "Live and breathe as Ezio, now a legendary master assassin, in his struggle against the Templar order. Lead your own brotherhood of Assassins and strike at the heart of the enemy. Rome," the card says, according to Kotaku. "And for the first time, take part in an innovative multiplayer layer allowing you to embody an assassin of y

Those hoping for some sort of satisfying closure on the Morrigan storyline in Dragon Age: Origins unfortunately won't find it here. If you know what that sentence means and find it to be disappointing, then you're the target audience for this downloadable content. If you have no idea who Morrigan is and why you should care about her exploits, then bail out now. This content is meant for those who have either finished Origins or were too lazy to get through the whole thing and are beyond the point of caring about spoilers. Called Witch Hunt, this is the latest in a long line of small storyline expansions. Morrigan, the sultry magic user from Origins, is the star here, though she only shows up very briefly at the end. The interaction is frustratingly shallow as well, which is too bad for fans of the fiction hoping for a little more detail. The conversation options with Morrigan w

As a huge fan of the Mass Effect series, I have been somewhat disappointed with all of the downloadable content offerings. While the characters have been interesting and the stories well-told, it felt like what happened didn't matter once it was all over. BioWare has changed that with its latest downloadable content – The Lair of the Shadow Broker. The first "bridging" DLC available, your actions do matter and will play a role in Mass Effect 3. The Lair of the Shadow Broker begins like any other mission in Mass Effect 2: an email in your inbox. Somehow the Illusive Man has tracked down intel on the location of the Shadow Broker, the galaxy's most mysterious and pow

Reviewing Halo games is hard. See, you aren't judging just one experience – this is the rare franchise in which campaign and multiplayer are equally popular, and must be considered with equal weight. You aren't judging for just one audience, either – the franchise is too popular for too many unique reasons. There are those who only want an epic solo saga, and those who only care about online competition. There are those who enjoy a Halo game once every couple years, and those who devour the entire Halo universe through comics, novelizations, anime and more. And you know what? Each type of fan will have a very different reaction to Halo: Reach. Some will be thrilled. Some will be disappointed. To help you predict which end of the spectrum your opinion will fall, therefore, we're splitting this review into two parts. On this page, our review – and score – f

It's been a long while stuck in the wilderness for F1 fans, but finally, Codemasters are on the verge of releasing a new F1 title for PC, PS3 and 360. Can it live up to expectations? We caught up with Stephen Hood, Chief Developer on F1 2010, to find out. IGN AU: The F1 racer used to be a staple of the videogame landscape, but it's been a while since the last 'next-gen' F1 racing game. Why do you think there's been such a gap between F1 titles? And how big a step up is this going to be from the F1 games of the past? Stephen Hood: It is about time that F1 came back to gaming and we want it to come back with a bang. The license had gone a bit stale and needed reinventing from a gaming point of view. We actually signed the FORMULA ONE license back in April 2008 and began the early design work soon after that with the

We're getting into the holiday release season, and you know what that means: it's time for the high profile, big budget first-person shooters to hit the market. Bungie's Halo: Reach is already out and Treyarch's Call of Duty: Black Ops is in November, and in the middle sits Medal of Honor. The name isn't new, but this subtitle-less version of the game represents a reset for the franchise. Traditionally, it'd been set in World War II, but like Infinity Ward did with its Call of Duty franchise, EA's bringing Medal of Honor into modern times. Development isn't taking place all in one studio. The multiplayer component is being built by DICE, the studio behind the Battlefield franchise. Only a limited number of modes and maps have been shown off so far, playable in a beta that started up a few months ago. The single-player portion, which fol

Blizzard has finally opened up access to the StarCraft II beta test to a select number of users, which has many old-school fans excited. It's a little surprising to think that it's been roughly 12 years since Blizzard first released its popular sci-fi real-time strategy title. We've seen it at events numerous times and Blizzard has even released Battle Report videos of entire matches, but we haven't yet been able to really check out all the new features of the online experience. That is, at least, until now. Users who've been selected to participate in the beta can log into their account and grab the necessary files to dive in. I hopped in a few hours ago to get a look at how everything works. It's still a little early to say much about the gameplay, so in this article I'll focus mostly on the kinds of options the beta test lets you take advantage of.

The Microsoft press conference is already in full swing here at E3 this year and already some exciting news has emerged from the conference. After Call of Duty was shown, legendary game developer Hideo Kojima took the stage to give us the very first taste of gameplay for Metal Gear Solid: Rising. The game, according to one of Kojima's producers, revolves around the phrase Zan Datsu. Zan, in Japanese, means "to cut," while datsu means "to take." This phrase will inform us how Rising will work. The first segment of the demonstration featured a large cybernetic soldier carefully patrolling a dark factory with a massive arm-mounted gun at the ready. The soldier looked similar to the FROG soldiers we saw in Metal Gear Solid 4, but quite a bit bigger. A burst of movement can be seen in the rafters and the soldier responds accordingly, unl

One of the biggest MMO events of the year is almost upon us. Square Enix's Final Fantasy XIV is the second online-only game in the main numbered series, following up on Final Fantasy XI which was originally released way back in 2003 for PC in North America and later for the PlayStation 2 and Xbox 360 consoles. This new game launches on September 30th this year, though you can get in early with the more expensive Collector's Edition. Final Fantasy XIV, like its predecessor, will also be straddling the platform gap. In addition to the PC version, PlayStation 3 owners will get a chance to dive in but not until early next year. On PC, the title's in open beta right now. I've had a chance to play for a number of hours to get the feel for the play and understand a number of its system. It's an incomplete picture at this point for sure, bu

From what's been seen so far, there's little doubt that Civilization V is going to be a lot of fun when it's released on September 21, but what happens when you get tired of playing against only the AI? Well, then it's time to dive into the multiplayer mode and add one or more friends. I had the chance to get a look at how the game performs with others, and though it's difficult to make any sort of judgment call after only a few hours of play, it seems to be something Civ fans are going to like. In the preview build we have access to, which keep in mind is not a complete version of the game, there's room to invite up to 16 players into a match, and it appears as though you can mix

Two Worlds was a laughing stock. There's no point in pretending otherwise. A vaguely Oblivion-esque roleplaying game, it reliably failed to match its ambition with its budget, resulting in a buggy, bizarre thing with a script seemingly written by a madman drunk on tramp juice. The one thing it did get right was timing - fairly hot on the heels of Oblivion, and something a little refreshingly different in the 360's relative youth. Also, it let you strap multiple swords together to make one even better sword. There's no arguing that that's a bad idea, right? Snickerfest it might have been, but the 2007 RPG sold well enough to warrant a sequel , one that we're told will be much, much better: built new from the ground up, rather than being simply more Two Worlds. That's your cue to stop sniggering at the back and pay attention.

This game is the one of the best games ever created. I know that this game is old but it´s awsome! Hello, this is my first review for this site, I was making reviews for Facepunch on free threads in General Games Discussion. Well, let´s start. This is an Huge game, it´s an classic that I play in the present, and the multi-player and the story are great, this game is not for Doom, Battlefield or CoD fans, sorry for saying this but it´s true, some fans of this games don´t like Halo, I like those 4 games. The great vaporware saga of Duke Nukem looks to be coming to a close. At PAX this morning, 2K and Gearbox turned gamers loose on the first stage of Duke Nukem Forever. Let me repeat that for the non-believers: Duke Nukem Forever is real and it is an actual playable game. I half-expect to now to see Sasquatch walking down Pike Street in downtown Seattle. Before getting hands-on time with Duke Nukem Forever, Gearbox CEO Randy Pitchford talked to us about how the developer became a part of the Duke saga. After some persuasion, Gearbox was offered the keys to the beleaguered game (it has existed in one form or another for over a decade) and Pitchford jumped at the chance. "To us, it felt like D

Wellcome to my review, today we are going to talk about Kane & Lynch 2. This game is not all that bad, but it isn´t that good. Story The story in this game is good, but it is so bad in the end that you will ask to yourself: "was this the ending?". The story is very strong and violent. I will not spoil nothing more of the game, but this game is very short, 4 hours and it´s done. The story is good, and the first part it´s an huge blast, but the story isn´t that good when it reaches the end. Gameplay I really like that camera, it´s so good that you think that you are in an movie, they fixed the cov

There was a time when James Bond was all about the finer things in life; about supping Martinis as he watches the sun set on the Monaco harbour, or of bedding improbably named and impossibly beautiful ladies. Since Daniel Craig's taken on the role, though, it seems he likes nothing more than cracking skulls against door frames and crushing the necks of construction workers with his python-thick thighs. So it's this brutal blend of combat that's front and centre of James Bond 007: Blood Stone, Bizarre and Activision's game that has Craig reprising his turn as the secret agent. It's certainly the foremost part of the all-new demo th

Mafia II is upon us and ushering in a new era of wise guys and made men. If you've been waiting for this one, there is good news – the game is fun. Having shootouts in bars while bottles explode and glass flies, finding a mob hacking your friend to death, and going to brothels are all great times. Still, those moments aren't the entire game, and the accompanying parts hurt the whole. Mafia II casts you as Vito Scaletta, a young Italian who returns from World War II to find his mother and sister on the hook to a loan shark. Like any gangster in a gangster movie, Vito decides he doesn't want a subpar life of the slums and goes down the organized crime route to make some cash. You'll be with Vito as he whacks dudes, steals ca

Big name games need big development time. The six year wait for Remedy's Alan Wake may be one extreme, but the very best games often make us wait. Conversely, when a game's turned swiftly around suspicions are raised; will it be a quick cash-in, a rushed job or something that's far from great. So it was with Fable III – its announcement at last August's Gamescom came when many people were still chewing its predecessor over, and when Peter Molyneux later claimed that the leap from Fable II to Fable III was bigger than that between the first and second games it was hard not to take that statement with a pinch of salt.

Dead Rising 2 is good. Very good, in fact. I felt like I needed to get that out right away. See, a few weeks ago I previewed the first two days of the game, and I found a title that was chugging in spots, suffering from really long loads, and generally not performing like a game that was about to come out. I reported that Capcom said it was aware of the issues and working to fix them, but even I rolled my eyes at the idea of the company getting everything in line for launch day. Well, it's not perfect and it is rough around the edges here and there, but Dead Rising 2 is definitely a winner. Of course, it's also a lot like the last game, so if you thought that one was a loser, you should probably proceed with caution – zombies ahead.

For the fifth game in a series, Conflict: Denied Ops sure doesn't show any signs of evolution. This might actually be the simplest edition of the shooter franchise that developer Pivotal Games has produced, with game-play so out of date that it might as well be wearing a plaid flannel shirt and listening to Alice in Chains. But even though the action is a good decade behind the times, the game's rapid-fire pace blurs the fact that you're shooting the same bad guys over and over again. Attractive visuals feature diverse terrain spread all over the globe. Co-operative play is another highlight, which earns the game some applause all by itself, given how this shooter feature is so often asked for and so rarely delivered. So even though nothing here is going to slow down traffic--let alone stop it--such a speedy mindless shooter like this i

Only a year gone and Electronic Arts is already burning rubber with another Need for Speed title. Last year the publisher released Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit 2, a fantastic racer on the PlayStation 2, but one not quite as polished on other platforms. Since developer Black Box was responsible for the slick PS2 iteration, EA recruited them to develop the next in the franchise. Aptly titled Need for Speed Underground, it focuses on the custom kit and import car circuit. It is most commonly, and certainly not unfairly, compared to the theme featured in the popular The Fast and the Furious movies. So, it is a definite departure from the world of exotic cars and over-the-top police chases that the series was founded on. It broadens the NFS franchise, bringing a number of things to the start

Overshadowed by the big three sequels this fall -- Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, Half-Life 2, and Halo 2 -- the world's best selling game in 2003 really isn't something that should be ignored. Developers of racing games received a new injection of life and purpose in the last two years. The growing popularity of street racing and modding has flourished in the popular culture, while Criterion's Burnout series has blazed a path all its own, bringing arcade racing back to its pre-Gran Turismo glory days. The Need for Speed series has never clung to a particular aspect of pop culture like Rockstar's Midnight Club or a particular car like Sega's Ferrari 360, but the long-time series struck gold with its light implementation of modding with Need for Speed Underground, selling more units worldwide than any game in 2003 with 7.5 million. Need for Speed Most Wanted continues the street culture thing, but EA's Canadian development team has mined one of the better iterations of the series, Need for Speed Hot Pursuit, fusing both rudiment

After Need for Speed Underground outsold all other games in 2004, the largest independent game publisher in the world adroitly kept the series coming without a hitch. Last year's Most Wanted shipped at Microsoft's Xbox 360 launch and introduced a creative take on story-telling by using filtered customized FMV to give the familiar racer a fresh presentation. The police were back with a ferocious vengeance. And it offered a particularly North-West vibe to it.
